24-Hour Non-Stop Fitness to Honour Athletes of Determination
From 6 pm on November 19 to 6 pm on November 20, the coaches of Heroes of Hope will attempt a non-stop, 24-hour workout honouring the athletes of determination who train with the UAE’s Heroes of Hope programme, which promotes inclusivity in the sport for people of determination. Taking place at 24 Fitness, in Dubai’s Al Quoz, the initiative aims to highlight the round-the-clock reality of caring for family members with additional needs, while celebrating the skills and passions of the Heroes who have discovered a sense of community and achievement through their participation in Heroes of Hope.
An affiliated partner of the Special Olympics, Heroes of Hope is part of the Ma’an Social Incubator programme run by the Department of Community Development in Abu Dhabi.
Partnered with the UAE’s Al Jalila Foundation, Heroes of Hope is mandated to support people of determination throughout the country.
Founded by former PE teacher Hollie Murphy, 33, from Ireland, Heroes of Hope currently offers a full programme of sporting activities including fitness training, boxing, rugby, athletics, basketball, gymnastics, swimming and football to over 150 people of determination aged from three to 40 years old and of over 40 different nationalities.
Murphy says: “Like the Avengers, our Heroes live in the shadows. They all have superpowers and each one is different. Heroes of Hope offers a support system to help find that superpower.”
